The choir consists of about 60 female and male Singers. Many of the members are active and former students of the University of Music, Drama and Media Hannover, but other professions are represented as well, and all Singers are united in their wide choral experience and their joy in singing challenging works together. The performance of a wide range of a cappella works, some of them quite unknown, forms an important emphasis of the choir. In addition to sacred and secular a cappella music of the 15th century until today, the choir performs cantatas, masses, oratorios, and passions. Many compositions were broadcast for radio stations or published on CD. The choir has recorded ten CDs and performed several world premieres of contemporary compositions, e.g. by Büsing, Dinescu, Fuchs and Wangenheim. In 2010 the choir received the ECHO KLASSIK award for the CD "Glaubenslieder", the hi...    less

World-class, professional Canadian soloists enjoy performing with with the choir time and again. Each season, the choir presents four or five concerts, incorporating a blend of repertoire from gospel to sacred to pop to oratorio. Classical highlights include St. Matthew Passion, Elijah, the annual Messiah, Carmina Burana, and Bach's B Minor Mass, which was a crowning achievement for the choir’s 10th and 20th anniversaries. Other popular concerts have featured the musical and comedic talents of Natalie Choquette, the famous and charismatic Michael Burgess, and the stirring sounds of spirituals under the direction of Brainerd Blyden-Taylor, whose own professional chamber choir, The Nathaniel Dett Chorale, headed for Washington to join the celebrations around President Obama’s inauguration.  less

For english description, see below.

Cantate is a mixed-voice youth choir based in Bishop’s Stortford, Hertfordshire. It is open to all young Singers, whatever their background and musical upbringing. Cantate comprises three choirs for children and young people which all perform to an exceptionally high standard. Cantate performed at the Royal Albert Hall, both in the BBC and Schools Prom Concerts, the Royal Festival Hall, the Barbican, the Guildhall London, 10 Downing Street, St Paul’s Cathedral, the Basilica of St Francis in Assisi, St Mark’s Basilica in Venice, and in many local and regional venues. Cantate has gained many national and international awards. In 2008 we achieved international acclaim at the world’s largest choral event – the World Choir Games in Graz, Austria – in which over 430 choirs from some 90 countries competed. Cantate won gold and silver medals, and was the only UK choir to win a gold medal in the finals.  less
