Fingal Chamber Choir was founded in 2006 by Director, David Maxwell. Currently numbering 18 singers, FCC has a broad repertoire featuring everything from early music and traditional pieces to the works of contemporary composers such as Whitacre, Pärt, Lauridsen and McMillan, and is highly regarded at home and abroad. In 2011, we travelled to Trondheim, Norway, to take part in Sangforening, a major festival featuring hundreds of Norwegian choirs, and were the first ever foreign choir invited to take part. 2012 saw us visit Languedoc, France, where we gave concerts in beautiful old churches in Alzonne and Montréal, near Carcassonne. We are active in radio and television, having featured in many broadcasts of recorded and live services by the Irish national broadcaster RTE, including one recorded in Swords CoI church which was broadcast on Christmas day, 2010 and Easter and Advent services in 2012 and 2013. Twice a year Chris Rowbury creates a choir from scratch over just six rehearsals. There are no auditions and all Songs are taught by ear. The idea is that we go on an imginary Singing Safari collecting exotic Songs from around the world. The Singing Safari began at the Warwick Folk Festival in 2006, and continued in 2011 when Chris moved to Suffolk. The winter safari ends in a shared concert in Ipswich, and the summer safari is a free half hour performance outdoors.
