Today it comprises 23 selected singers, Cantilena meaning "lightweight song", deriving from The Latin word for "song" or "melody". Whenever possible, during concerts The members of The choir wear a pearl necklace to represent The significance of The activities pursued: each member of The choir is represented by one of The pearls, with The strand linking Them all being The music - The main purpose of so much hard work to achieve artistic quality. As well as being an extremely feminine accessory, it also illustrates The quality, refinement, finish and musical beauty that The Academia Concerto pursues. It has evolved into an Ensemble determined to reinvent itself continuously as it develops a sound that is artistically intelligent. In its 14-year history, Novo Concertante Manila has competed and won in several international choral competitions. Among which are The 2nd Choir Olympics in Busan, South Korea(2002), The 1st A Voyage of Songs International Chorale Competition in Genting Highlands, Malaysia (2003) and The 23rd Takarazuka International Chamber Choir Competition in Takarazuka, Japan (2007). In 2009, The choir won The 1st and 2nd Prizes at The 46th Internationaler Chorwettbewerb in Spittalan der Drau, Austria and The 1st Prize at The 55th Certamen International de Habaneras y Polifonia in Torrevieja, Spain.
