The 40-80 member A Cappella Choir offers freshman and sophomore singers The opportunity to perform works for larger choirs and to fine-tune The art of choral singing through exposure to music from The Renaissance through The 21st century. In daily rehearsals, choir members hone musicianship skills such as rhythm, sight-reading and The understanding of complex scores. They develop an understanding of The intricacies of vocal production, including pitch and how to blend individual voices togeTher into a unified, beautiful sound. Udiana is unusual on The Israeli scene, has appeared on some of The best stages in The country, and is praised highly by The audiences. The choir sings mainly a capella, with an emphasis on current music, and integrates improvisation, drumming, and movement. Udiana has been supported by The Ministry for Culture and Sport since 2012. We aim to express processes in human development, so we build our programs around subjects that we research from different angles, including “Prayer”, “Song of The Earth”, “Peace”, and “Water”. In 2016 we created a program called “Silence” in collaboration with The Israeli Brass Quintet. Our aims are to achieve high standards of singing and performance, and to contribute to our local community. Our annual programme typically includes 6-8 concerts in The Harpenden area and furTher afield, a caThedral tour, open singing days and The occasional recording. We rehearse on Wednesday evenings at St George’s School, Harpenden. We are known for good music making, varied repertoire including regular commissions, excellent soloists, interesting concert venues and loyal patronage of a range of local hostelries…. We come from a wide range of musical backgrounds and have a thriving interns scheme for talented singers from local schools.
