Esta excepcional pieza de Navidad, que contiene el texto principalmente en inglés, está interpretada por el CORO "SANTA MARÍA" de Coria del Río (Sevilla) con una sincronía muy especial, ya que se han entrelazado hasta 4 interpretaciones en 4 lugares diferentes, para obtener esta versión única, que bien podría resumir el extraordinario calendario para los Conciertos de Navidad del año 2024. Acompañados al piano por Óscar Vicente, bajo la dirección de Sergio Asián, estas versiones corresponden a los días 13-14-21-22 de diciembre de 2024, por orden de aparición en la Parroquia del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús y Ntra. Some background...  moreThis brand new version of Good King Wenceslas is dedicated to my uncle Duncan Shaw of Vancouver. His "retirement project" - developing his own theory of gravity - has been a huge inspiration in my own compositional journey late in life. Some background: I have sung the traditional version of Good King Wenceslas since I was a kid. I fell in love with the lyrics and the story, but have always been puzzled by the way it was arranged, in particular the way that the "las" of Wenceslas lands on the downbeat. When I was young, I thought the lyrics were actually "Good King Wences last looked out!" All to say that I got inspired to create a totally different version. I used the 19th century poem by John Mason Neale, but I wanted to create a different "feel" to the story, to take it back in time to its origins in the Middle Ages - hence the medieval feel to much of the piece. I also felt that since the Wenceslas story is all about a journey, a setting in 3/4 time would create a better sense of that feeling, ra...    less

Un classico natalizio che ci ha accompagnato nel Natale 2012. Recuperato grazie agli amici del Corpo Bandistico di Cappella Maggiore. Registrazione in occasione del Concerto di Natale nella Chiesa di Santa Maria Maddalena a Cappella Maggiore.

We are a large, dynamic and ambitious amateur choir of around 150 singers. We perform exclusively with professional orchestras and soloists, promoting Concerts mainly in Guildford, but also in the major London Concert halls and occasionally abroad.
