We rehearsed for most of the day in ...  moreOn 24th November 2012 we brought together 98 Singers and four choral directors for our most ambitious project to date: a choral workshop on Thomas Tallis' monumental 40-part motet, 'Spem in Alium', composed in 1570. We rehearsed for most of the day in two-choir sections, with our four choral directors, Scott Inglis-Kidger, Sarah Tenant-Flowers, Riccardo Bonci and Jonny Davies. After lunch we began to put the sections together. At 4pm we brought all 8 choirs together and Scott Inglis-Kidger led a most thrilling final performance. Ethel Waters first sang 'Stormy Weather' at The Cotton Club night club in Harlem in 1933 and recorded it that year. This version is based on that by the Golden Gate Quartet, the most successful of all of the African-American Gospel music groups who sang in the jubilee quartet style. Formed in 1934 the group remains active today, although with no original members.
