W.J. Kirkpatrick's “Away in a Manger” is one of seven carols arranged by Mr. Gjeilo in his Christmas Carols Vol. 1 & 2 (published by Walton Music). Megan McCormick is the soprano soloist on this video.
ABOUT THE COMPOSER:
Ola Gjeilo (pronounced Yay-lo) was born in Norway in 1978, and moved to the United States in 2001 to begin his composition studies at the Juilliard School in New York City.
Ola’s Concert works are performed all over the world, and his debut recording as a pianist-composer, the lyrical crossover album Stone Rose, was followed by its 2012 sequel, Piano Improvisations. Many of Ola’s choral works are featured on Phoenix Chorale’s bestselling Northern Lights album, which is devoted entirely to his music for choir. All three albums are available on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, etc.

ABOUT THE PIECE:
Composer Vijay Singh writes: “The Lord's Prayer was inspired by Oliver Messian's choral masterpiece "O Sacrum Convivium", with its use of dense harmony, existentialism, hypnotic transcendental tonal treatment, and grateful piety.” The composer decided to use the universal "Lord's Prayer" text and various musical ideas to communicate the power and hope of this prayer. The piece builds to climax at "For Thine is the Power and Glory forever!" and ends reflectively, savoring the "Amen".

Composer Vijay Singh is Professor in the music department at Central Washington University. This video is from a Concert presented on the CWU Campus.in May, 2014 entitled: “The CWU Choirs and Friends sing songs of Singh” In that Concert, 28 of Singh’s pieces were performed by 6 choirs, including two invited guest high school choirs.
