As a result of the love they had for choir music, they felt a need for a school choir to ...  moreUviwe Senior Secondary School Choir, shortly know as Uviwe SSS Choir was founded in 1997 by a group of students, most of whom used to sing in various church choirs. As a result of the love they had for choir music, they felt a need for a school choir to be established. From the first year of its existence, choir was trained and prepared for the schools’ eisteddfods by two fellow students. In 1998, they both matriculated. In the following year these students continued with the choir training and were compensated for their services by the School Governing Body (SGB). In 2001 they were snatched by nearby schools that were willing to pay them better wages and the SGB had to look for other people who could assist with choir training from the community. This continued until 2004, when the school employed a teacher who studied music at university. In 2009 another teacher, who studied music too, came and volunteered his services at the school. We think everyone can sing and complete beginners, shower singers and pros are all welcome. With no auditions and no requirements to read music it’s all about the enjoyment of singing. We sing for 3 terms a year and each term ends with a fantastic end of term charity gig, it’s great to be able to give back to the local community whilst enjoying ourselves so much! We sing everything from Queen and Aretha Franklin to Hozier and Florence and the Machine, and have members ranging in age from 20-70, there is really something for everyone! This is our choir's 10th year and we're always looking for new members, so if you fancy a sing please get in touch. We offer 1 free taster to each new member so you can try the choir out before deciding to join. Ensemble Laude is a community of women united by a passion for choral music and the vision of our Artistic Director, Elizabeth MacIsaac. We celebrate the beauty and resilience of women’s vocal traditions through the ages and seek to share this art form through joyful, soulful, and life-enhancing performances that gladden the heart, lift the spirit, and expand the mind. Ensemble Laude began in 1998 with a group of 12 singers focused solely on medieval music. It has since expanded into a vibrant community choir of over 50 vocalists. We have performed on BBC Radio London, at Wembley Stadium, and recorded an advert at studios where Harry Potter and Shrek were made. We meet on Wednesdays, 4.30-5.30pm in NW3, and there are no auditions. We sing a wide variety of music, including classical, Disney, musical theatre, rock, pop and music from around the world. After a £20 three-week trial (not an audition, just to see if your child enjoys the choir), the fee is £10 for each remaining week of term (siblings 25% off, discount available if you have concerns about paying).
