The group was set up to perform exciting Vocal material at a variety of events, and to give men and women who love singing, the platform to get involved in a fun and sociable musical experience. The Voice Of The Town family has now grown and not only do we have our choir in Newcastle, but we now have choirs in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Birmingham.

The composition of members is unique in the international classical music world: all members are from one large family: six siblings between 8 and 21 years of ageand the two parents. Artistic leader: the parents, Zita and Vilmos Tóth, but the children also participate in creating musical conceptions and decisions. The parents have been singing in choirs since they were children and have participated in numerous competitions, festivals and courses. The children have also sung in choirs from an early age, usually singing solos. They study singing, musical theory and instrumental music. Our purpose is to promote the miracle of singing and music - that we owe so much - to people. With each passing year we strive to sing more and more beautiful compositions with a higher quality of performance. The Vocal Artists were grateful to be able to acknowledge the composer in attendance at this performance. Ave Virgo Sanctissima was performed as one of the compulsory pieces for the Tolosa Choral Contest, in which the Vocal Artists were awarded 4 First Prizes as well as the Prize of the Audience. As Turkiye's first Barbershop style Vocal ensemble, the qartet became the first Turkish member of the Barbershop Harmony Society. The quartet has performed at various prestigious venues including Casa Botter, Akbank Sanat, BKM Mutfak, Pera Museum, Borusan Music House, Santa Maria Draperis Church, St. Pierre and St. Paul's Church. In 2017, they received an invitation from Harmony University - Quartet College in Nashville, USA, and became the first Turkish quartet to attend this annual Barbershop convention and performed to international audience. Barbershop Istanbul was greatly appreciated by the audience in Nashville, the birthplace of the genre, as well as in Turkiye. The quartet's repertoire includes not only classical Barbershop arrangements and Barbershop arrangements of popular music, but also Kaan Bayır's works of popular, traditional and classical turkish music arranged in Barbershop style.  less

Our aims are to achieve high standards of singing and performance, and to contribute to our Local community. Our annual programme typically includes 6-8 concerts in the Harpenden area and further afield, a cathedral tour, open singing days and the occasional recording. We rehearse on Wednesday evenings at St George’s School, Harpenden. We are known for good music making, varied repertoire including regular commissions, excellent soloists, interesting concert venues and loyal patronage of a range of Local hostelries…. We come from a wide range of musical backgrounds and have a thriving interns scheme for talented singers from Local schools. Over our 50 year history, the Leas have sung under 11 permanent conductors and many guests, each of whom has made a distinctive contribution to our style and repertoire.
