We have been invited by Ely Cathedral in Cambridgeshire, UK, to sing as "choir in residence" for a week in July 2014, taking over their choir's duties of singing 8 services that week. We are the only Hawai'i choir to belong to the Royal School of Church Music, and we use their adjudication standards to award medals which are internationally recognized by the RSCM. We sing sacred music in English, Latin, and Hawaiian. We are always looking for new choristers. Auditions are year-around, although placement occurs only in fall semester and spring semester. Founded in 2005, VOH has been entertaining Abu Dhabi audiences ever since! We have members of all skill levels and are a multicultural group. We use professionally made voice tracks to help learn our parts with precision, thus allowing us to put aside our sheet music and really enjoy the magic of hearing all the harmonies merged into the ringing chords of the Barbershop style! It’s the blend of these unique vocal parts that creates the space for an exciting ensemble. Barbershop singing style is unaccompanied, and creates four-part a cappella harmony. Although barbershop-style music is usually built on simple melodies and is relatively easy to sing, the "a cappella style" and the ear training necessary for independent part singing make it one of the most challenging and rewarding accomplishments of a vocal ensemble.
