We are dedicated to quality performances, Music education, and community service. As The resident choral ensemble of The Sandler Center for The Performing Arts, we perform a varied repertoire from classics to Broadway and rock to jazz in two main concerts, one during The Christmas season and one in The spring, with additional benefit and collaborative performances throughout The year. Scheduled auditions for new members are held in August and January of each year. Our mission is to enhance The cultural and Musical life of The community and to provide an opportunity for those interested in choral Music to participate in These Musical endeavors. For a long time, The choir existed as part of this group, performing with its dancers and orchestra, singing mostly folk Music; in 1999, Valerija Skapiene, The present artistic director of The choir, began working in "Ugnele", and in a few years, The choir's repertoire extended to include not only folk, but also classical, jazz, world Music; in 2002, during "Mes - Lietuvos vaikai" national choral competition, The choir was acknowledged to have reached The level of The first category (this is The highest category of artistic level in Lithuania). We accomplish our mission by combining The power of women's experience with Musical expression in The following ways: 1) each season we commission one new piece for women's voices from a female composer; 2) each season, we research, uncover and perform a work for women's voices by a female composer who has been overlooked in Music history; 3) we provide an annual scholarship to one girl to sing with The Phoenix Girl's Chorus and 4) each season, we perform two annual concerts and a variety of local performances in our communities and schools.  less
