We aim for high standards, and of course strong singers are always valued – but you don’t have to be able to read m...  moreFHCS was formed in 1951 and has grown into an ambitious 100-strong Choir. Membership is open to anyone with or without choral experience. We aim for high standards, and of course strong singers are always valued – but you don’t have to be able to read Music, and there are no auditions. The age range of members stem from 20 to over 70 so there is room for everyone. If you’re not sure which voice part you are then Christopher Wray, our Musical Director, can help you with this. The Choir performs three public concerts each year, at Easter, in the Summer and at Christmas. We also support the local communities by singing at various events and this includes raising funds for charities. Each year we also sing away from London which combines singing to another community, or combining a performance with their Choir, with a fun day out. The repertoire includes works of different styles and epochs. The main part of the production is dedicated to the Church Slavonic Music, variations of authentic Bulgarian folklore, and, in the same time, productions of modern Bulgarian authors. The vocal ensemble has set the ambitious task to reach a homogenous and beautiful sound, expressiveness and the right stylistic interpretation. “Prima” Choir has delivered artistic tours in Sweden (1997), Poland (1997), Greece (2002), Portugal (2004), France (2006), Albania (2010), Greece(2013)… The formation has taken part in the Balkan Mountains fest in Veliko Tarnovo in 2001. The Singing Safar...  moreTwice a year Chris Rowbury creates a Choir from scratch over just six rehearsals. There are no auditions and all songs are taught by ear. The idea is that we go on an imginary Singing Safari collecting exotic songs from around the world. The Singing Safari began at the Warwick Folk Festival in 2006, and continued in 2011 when Chris moved to Suffolk. The winter safari ends in a shared concert in Ipswich, and the summer safari is a free half hour performance outdoors. Each safari learns about eight songs in 3- and 4-part harmony.  less
