During the choir’s existence, it has taken par...  moreFounded in June 1977, the present Whitehaven Male Voice Choir has established an enviable reputation among the musical world of male voices in Britain, along with appearances on local radio and television. During the choir’s existence, it has taken part in many musical festivals, and proven its quality by winning many first prizes, and has been joined in concert by world renowned soloists and choirs from Britain and America. Every year, the choir perform around twenty concerts throughout Cumbria, raising thousands of pounds for charitable organisations and other worthy causes. The services of the choir are provided entirely free of charge to the organisations they perform for. Outside the county they have performed in such notable venues as The Royal Albert Hall, London; on three occasions, Cardiff Arms Park; twice, Sheffield Arena and in Edinburgh. The ensemble has performed successfully in major music festivals in Israel and abroad. Their resume includes hundreds of performances in the most prominent venues in Israel (‘The Israeli Opera House‘, ‘Binyanei Hauma‘, ‘Tzavta‘ etc...) and collaborations with various artists and ensembles, including: ‘The Vocal Octet‘ , ‘The Kolan quartet‘, the singer Hanan Yovel and ‘The Haifa Symphony Orchestra'. They have received media exposure on radio and television programs and were featured in a special television program celebrating the Millennium year which was broadcasted to 60 countries worldwide. In 2004, the ensemble was invited to a concert tour in Germany and was warmly received by the critics. Through his diligent guidance, the group has impressed its audiences with the depth and range of its interpretive skills in performances of a capella early music repertoire. ESPRIT was awarded a first prize at the Peel Music Festival in April 2012, and is the proud recipient of the Hon. Barbara A. Hagerman Award for first place at the 2012 Ontario Provincial Music Festival. In August 2012, ESPRIT was awarded second place in the Canadian Nationals of the Federation of Canadian Music Festivals (Class 100 - Honourable Barbara A. Hagerman – Best performance by a community choral group 19 and up). As part of its mission the chorus seeks out performances in historical venues; in the summer of 2011, ESPRIT toured Montreal, Québec, performing at St-Joseph Oratory, Notre-Dame Basilica, Christ Church Cathedral and Marie-Reine-du-Monde Cathedral. The 35 members of Bat-Kol, ages 12 to 18, perform with the Israeli Opera, Israel Philharmonic Orchestra as well as taking part in theater productions, television programs, national public events and concerts for the general public. The choir has participated in numerous international festivals and competitions in which it won many gold medals. In April 2011 the choir won three gold medals and the Grand Prix of the Slovakia Cantat international competition in which tens of European male, female and mixed choirs competed.  less
