Aimed mainly at singers in the "young professional" category, it is for people who are looking for a Choir with a difference - a great social atmosphere and a challenging, varied repertoire. An auditioned Choir of around 25 members, Tamesis is a high-standard Choir, capable of singing 8-part repertoire on a few rehearsals and having fun while doing it! We've just recorded our second CD which will be released in Autumn 2012.

As a part of the historic community of Worcester Cathedral, the Choir has gained a reputation for Musical sensitivity and ground breaking performance. The Choir was founded in 1998 by its Musical director, Stephen Shellard, in order to draw together a group of high quality singers from the local area to develop a concert repertoire and further enrich the choral tradition of Worcester Cathedral. The establishment of the Choir made history as, for the first time since its foundation nearly 1000 years ago, Worcester Cathedral included women's voices as a part of its Musical life.  less

The ensemble is celebrated both nationally and internationally for excellent Musical interpretations originating in its quest for the deepest sources of inspiration: from lyrics, through harmony, texture and form, to individual feelings of the conductor and choristers. The Choir was established in 2005 by Bartosz Michałowski, a long-time assistant to Prof. Stefan Stuligrosz, founder of the famous "Poznan Nightingales" Boys´ and Men´s Choir of the Poznan Philharmonic. Conducting experience acquired during numerous concerts with the Poznan Philharmonic and Sinfonia Varsovia orchestras played a crucial role in the establishment of the young artist's own ensemble, which soon found recognition among organizers of prominent competitions and festivals. This smallest and most select of the Hofstra Choirs comprises the best singers at the University, both within and outside the Department of Music, and focuses on the distinct art of unaccompanied, or a cappella, ensemble singing, presented in carefully chosen performance spaces that are uniquely attuned to celebrate the human voice's potential. From an educational standpoint, the ensemble serves two main functions for the University. First, it acts as a laboratory for Hofstra’s future Music educators, both undergraduate and graduate, providing outlets for the exploration of the art of ensemble preparation through the study of the highest-quality choral literature.
