Fondly referred to as POWERHOUSE, the Choir was formed in 1986 for a Church building fund program. In 1988 the Choir was officially founded and directed under the leadership of Shawn Cotterell. With thirty-five voices and a multi-talented band, the Choir’s repertoire ranges from hip-hop, reggae, traditional and contemporary gospel. The director and founder of this anointed Choir is Shawn Cotterell. Shawn Cotterell’s first musical experience began at the age of seven singing in a Church Choir. By the age of twelve, Shawn answered the call of God on his life and began organizing the Powerhouse Fellowship Soul Choir. The Choir has over 50 members and fulfills about 20 engagements a year performing for a range of societies from small groups, Churches to national bodies, and has toured extensively, in the U.K., Ireland, Europe and U.S.A. including a number of Choir exchange visits.

In addition we have a choral scholarship programme for music students. We are led by Jonathan Wikeley, our Director of Music and Assistant Organist, Emma Howarth. We sing 3 out of 4 Sundays at All Saints Church Fulham at both the 9:30am Sung Eucharist and 6pm Choral Evensong. We have weekly rehearsals on Wednesdays at 8pm. We always welcome new members. He had retired 12 years previously. What was once a packed out mass full of joy and prayer, families and young couples, singles and religious, was now a quieter mass with no Choir and I saddened by this. I offered my services as a singer and musician to come and provide music for the 5:30 mass and within a few short weeks I returned to the place I consider my spiritual home. I had not purposely set out to start a Choir but people began to approach me with a desire to sing and it was a need within the community I was not going to Ignore. On the 12th Dec 2008 The Jes Gospel Choir was birthed with 5 singers and me & it was a wonderful experience and we received a very warm welcome.
