It's of course a wink to my favorite musical movie - I must have watched it at least a dozen times. It keeps inspiring my love for singing. We mostly sing musical songs, but not exclusively. We are dedicated to making this a great amateur choir. But, as Mary Poppins sang: 'In every job that must be done / there is an element of fun / You find the fun / and SNAP the job's a game'

This concert will invoke the rich and varied musical cultures of the Eastern Orthodox, Jewish, Islamic, and nature-centered traditions that coexist throughout the region. Kitka's program features traditional and contemporary Balkan, Slavic, and Caucasian (Georgian and Armenian) repertoire sung in more than twelve languages.  

Nevenka is a Los Angeles-based Women's folk chorus performing songs from Eastern Europe. Nevenka's repertoire includes songs from Bulgaria, Macedonia, Croatia, Albania, Russia, Greece, and Georgia, as well as Ladino Sephardic and Rom (Gypsy) songs. ...  moreNevenka is a Los Angeles-based Women's folk chorus performing songs from Eastern Europe. Nevenka's repertoire includes songs from Bulgaria, Macedonia, Croatia, Albania, Russia, Greece, and Georgia, as well as Ladino Sephardic and Rom (Gypsy) songs. The group was formed in 1976 by women who shared a common interest in the complex harmonies and compelling rhythms typical in Balkan music.
