Based on “Holy Innocents” by Christina Rossetti
Sleep, little baby, sleep;
the holy Angels love thee,
And guard thy bed, and keep
A blessed watch above thee.
No spirit can come near?
Nor evil beast to harm thee:
Sleep, Sweet, devoid of fear
Where nothing need alarm thee.
the Love which doth not sleep,
the eternal Arms surround thee:
the Shepherd of the sheep
In perfect love hath found thee.
Sleep through the holy night,
Kept from snare and sorrow,
Until thou wake to light
And love and warmth to-morrow. less

Lesklavaj (Slavery) is part of a 3-movement work titled “Ayiti” (Haiti). (Listen to the other two movements at the links below). the first movement depicts the remarkable story of the captured Africans who were reduced to slaves by European settlers in the American continent, particularly in the Caribbean. the second movement recounts the indepence of Haiti; and the third movement is about the Perseverance of the country which to this day, Haiti is fighting with fury to keep its freedom.
“No human being must live on their knees; slavery in all its forms is an affront to the Divine Creator. the sense of wonder teaches us to discover all the beauty and the magnificence of the creation, and the extraordinary richness of our humanity. Diversity and unity, respect and solidarity, compassion and generosity are what makes a free man.”
