The group was set up to perform exciting vocal material at a variety of events, and to give men and women who love singing, The platform to get involved in a fun and sociable musical experience. The Voice Of The Town family has now grown and not Only do we have our choirs in Newcastle and Edinburgh, but we now have choirs in Glasgow and Birmingham.

At full strength, we have over 80 talented members and we have recently launched a smaller ‘functiOn’ group – The ‘G:Force Executive’ for weddings and private functiOns. We support The natiOnal Sing Up campaign and perform regularly across The local community. This exciting and innovative choir rehearses every Tuesday evening during term time, from 6.30pm til 8.00pm. The original church, built in The 1880s, had a strOng choir of men and boys who took part in The Festival of Britain services in 1951. When The new church was opened in 1968, The musical traditiOn cOntinued. A new Walker organ was installed in The church, using some pipework from The old organ and Directors of Music have included David Sanger, Professor Roger Wibberley, Paul Dewhurst, Tom Fowkes, Marcus Wibberley, Iain Simcock and Andrew IbbotsOn. The current Director of Music is Huw Morgan. Girls were first admitted to The choir some ten years ago, but The choir remains unique in this part of south-east LOndOn in that it cOntinues to use Only trebles (girls and boys) On The top line. We love it when a 4 part chord is correctly tuned and The chord just locks togeTher and harmOnics (or overtOnes) ring out loud and strOng. We compete every year in local cOntest as a mean of measuring our progress against similar groups but we just love to perform for The public and so our cOntest activities are very well balanced with public performance. We also have a great time togeTher as One of our goals is to provide a place where men can gaTher and enjoy Their interest in singing.
