This is thanks to the Work of Knut Nystedt (b. 1915), organist, composer and conductor, who returned to Norway in 1964 after studying in the USA and started a choir at the music department of the University of Oslo. the choir continues to recruit members from the department of music, as well as from the Norwegian Academy of Music in more recent years. the American choral tradition in which Nystedt was trained emphasises the importance of new music – a practice Nystedt brought back with him to Oslo. Knut Nystedt’s music became a vital element of Schola Cantorum’s repertoire. Tone Bianca Sparre Dahl became conductor in 2002, and has further established the choir’s firm position in Norway’s musical life. She has continued Nystedt’s tradition of performing modern music. 'In Lucem' is a song of hope and love. the emotional lyrics are inspired by the biblical book of Job, the man who lost everything he had. We are providing a translation of the Latin lyrics below. In Lucem You will forget your sorrow. You will be happy, you will clothe yourself in light. Your sadness will be made a vague memory. We will shout and sing and reap in joy. We will laugh again, we will love again. Our sadness will be like a river Traveling across the earth, flowing into the ocean. You will forget your sorrow. You will be happy, you will clothe yourself in light.  is).getParent().getPrevious().style.display='';$(this).getParent().style.display='none';">less

Its 30 singers represent each and every possible walk of life. Good, solid, serious musical Work, hand in hand with a particularly warm, family-like atmosphere, have made every “Jean’s” rehearsal and performance something very special indeed. Our popularity is due in equal measure to the high quality of our performances and to our repertoire,“Love Around the World”, a wonderful songbook comprised of original five-part arrangements (all arranged by Jeanne Rabin herself) of the world’s most beloved love songs of all time – both in Hebrew and English, with a sprinkling of other languages as well.  is).getParent().getPrevious().style.display='';$(this).getParent().style.display='none';">less
