The enthusiastic group of singers from Lucerne and its surroundings is lead by young conductor Andreas Felber. molto cantabile was soon recognised by the Swiss audience thanks to their success at various competitions. In 2005 the ensemble won the audience award as well as the special award of the jury of the Swiss Choir Competition in Glarus, while in 2007 it was awarded the 1st place at the Valiant Forum for Young Orchestras and Choirs at the Murten Classic Summer Festival. In addition, molto cantabile has taken part in several renowned international choir competitions where it has proved to belong to the leaders of the international choir scene. In May 2004 the ensemble took part in the European Music Festival in Neerpelt, Belgium, where it was awarded 1st prize summa cum laude with 99/100 points. In October 2005 molto cantabile appeared at the Choir Festival in Tolosa, Spain, where it the came second in the category polyphony and fourth in folklore. Today it comprises 23 selected singers, Cantilena meaning "lightweight song", deriving from the latin word for "song" or "melody". Whenever possible, during concerts the members of the choir wear a pearl necklace to represent the significance of the activities pursued: each member of the choir is represented by one of the pearls, with the strand linking them all being the music - the main purpose of so much hard work to achieve artistic quality. As well as being an extremely feminine accessory, it also illustrates the quality, refinement, finish and musical beauty that the Academia Concerto pursues. All of them are former members of the “Dresdner Kreuzchor” (Choir of the Church of the Holy Cross Dresden) or the “Thomanerchor Leipzig” (St. Thomas Choir Leipzig), two of the most famous boy's choirs in Germany. The singers have set themselves the target to present their listeners a wide musical spectrum. Their repertoire consists of Vocal music from Renaissance and Baroque to Romanticism to the 20th and 21st century. Important elements are works of Jacobus Gallus, Michael Praetorius, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Francis Poulenc and Rudolf Mauersberger. In addition they also perform with popular music. Music of the “Comedian Harmonists”, “The Beatles”, Billy Joel or the German group “Wise Guys” are also an essential part of their repertoire.
