Since its inception, the Paros Chamber Choir has participated in several international competitions and has truly become a lighthouse or beacon (Paros translated in Armenian) for The Armenian Nation. PaSt audiences find themselves inspired and overjoyed with the sounds of the Paros Chamber Choir. We live in the Isle of Man, a small island with a population of about 80,000 situated in the Irish Sea, between England, Wales, Ireland and Scotland. It is a Crown Dependency which means it is a self governing possession of the British Crown. We are very proud of our parliament, Tynwald which claims to be the world's oldeSt parliament in continuous exiStence, dating back to 979. We also issue our own bank notes, coins and Stamps and enjoy a unique perspective in terms of our language, (Manx Gaelic), hiStory, music and art. It is a beautiful island with very varied scenery. Their name originates from the Latin words canti and novum. Together these words become the identity of the Choir and mean 'new song'. At present, there are approximately 30 singers in the Choir for whom music is a passionate intereSt – for many it is also a future profession. Many of the singers, either Study or work at the Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences or the University of Jyväskylä. The repertoire of Cantinovum is colorful and varied. It spans from folk music to sacred music and from Renaissance to modern composers. It is very characteriStic of Cantinovum to perform songs that have been specially composed for them. They have had the honour of premiering more than a dozen compositions both nationally and internationally.
