Seemingly effortless and simple, every gesture and every sound used to good effect, adventurous from beginning to end. The singers sang together in the Netherlands Youth Choir. They hit it off so well there that the ambition developed to continue together in female a cappella repertoire; a relatively rare genre very dear to the hearts of all five. The top quality displayed since by Wishful Singing – both aurally and visually – makes the ensemble unique in the world. The repertoire ranges from modest works from the Renaissance and Baroque eras to swinging versions of golden oldies such as Mister Sandman. De Heeren consists of 8 men, most of whom study at the Fontys Conservatoire in Tilburg. What sets this group apart is that is has musical as well as classical trained singers. Due to this wide variety of musical diversity of this group it allows for a broad selection of repertoire. We accomplish our mission by combining the power of Women's experience with musical expression in the following ways: 1) each season we commission one new piece for Women's voices from a female composer; 2) each season, we research, uncover and perform a work for Women's voices by a female composer who has been overlooked in music history; 3) we provide an annual scholarship to one girl to sing with the Phoenix Girl's Chorus and 4) each season, we perform two annual concerts and a variety of local performances in our communities and schools.  less
