The choir sings evensong every Sunday during term and performs in concerts organised by Somerville Music Society. Somerville Choir is currently being conducted by David Crown. He is assisted by The two organ scholars, Douglas Knight and Robert Pecksmith (http://www.robert-smith.org.uk ), and choir manager Stefan Schwarz. Since David Crown took over as Director of Chapel Music in 2007, The choir has been involved in two opera productions (Purcell's 'Dido and Aeneas ' and Gluck's 'Orfeo ed Euridice') as well as concerts in Oxford, Brighton, Wells, Swindon, Upton upon Severn and Steeple Aston. In recent years The choir has also sung evensong at Southwark, Worcester, Winchester, Wells and Berlin CaThedrals. This auditioned choir has 150 adult mixed voices and 300 youth mixed voices rehearsing weekly to bring various masterworks, original pieces, collaborations and new arrangements to The ears of many. Doug Mears is The Artistic Director with Patrick Vaughn as Youth Director. Youth Choruses have two convenient campuses with The professional support of Caroline Crocker and Bonny Tynch and Youth Chorus Directors. Additionally, full time accompanists and music educators meet The rehearsal and music education portions of this semi-professional chorus. Ever “In Tune With Excellence”, The Alliance competed this past Summer in Las Vegas finishing 15th in The world, and in previous years has finished as high as 4th place! In addition to The competition circuit, The Alliance Chorus also has had many opportunities to give back and perform for The community.
