This festive round dance from the northwestern mountains of Georgia features a text consisting entirely of nonsense words such as "worera", "voisa-rera", "dila-wadila", etc. Leslie is performing dance steps learned from a group of young dancers we met in Dmanisi, Georgia.  less

The Ensemble has a fascinating and diverse repertoire, most of which is original arrangements written by its members, some with humorous texts. The different programs also consist of traditional a-cappella arrangements. Among our different programs there are "Misa Criolla" with an authentic South American band; "Le Bouquet de Swing", rich harmonies and jumpy rhythms, well known jazz standards and new arrangements to pop songs; "American Harmony", in which the Israel Chamber Orchestra joins the octet in an American themed program; and our new program, Sgt. Pepper and the Fabulous Four. The musicians too are distinguished performers in their own right who tour Europe extensively, and who are versatile on both modern and baroque instruments. The group’s repertory is quite wide and eclectic and ranges from sacred and secular early music to contemporary works. Besides singing some of the most important Renaissance and Baroque masterpieces, by composers such as Victoria, Palestrina, Byrd, Monteverdi, Purcell, Handel and Bach, the group has also premiered several contemporary pieces and made first modern auditions of many Portuguese Renaissance and Baroque works. Christopher Bochmann, Ivan Moody, Bob Chilcott, Luis Tinoco, Eurico Carrapatoso and Vasco Mendonça are some of the composers who dedicated works to Grupo Vocal Olisipo. Grupo Vocal Olisipo attended several masterclasses led by some of the world leading Vocal Ensembles, such as The King's Singers and the Hilliard Ensemble and was coached in the performance of Baroque music by Jill Feldman.
