About the work: My sister is an English teacher at the Minnesota International Middle School in Minneapolis which provides a safe and inclusive environment for East African immigrant students to learn (many of whom are Somali). Most of these students came to the USA to escape the violent civil war that has plagued Somalia since 1991. Seeking a better life for their children, these students' parents risked their lives to come to the USA - a valiant act of love. I wanted to tell their story through music and so I asked my sister to have her students write poems about their experiences leaving their home and coming to the USA. I received over 100 poems that contain passion, pride, emotion, and vivid stories of the sights and sounds ...    less

Because Egypt is now well positioned for food, people from afar come to purchase grain to replace their own failing crops. Among these are Joseph's brothers, who do not recognize him (although he recognizes them). He accuses them of being spies and orders them to leave one of them, Simeon, here in jail while they go home and return with their youngest brother Benjamin (who did not come the first time).  less

Performed By The Harmonious Chorale-Ghana and Conducted By James Varrick Armaah - 2nd July, 2017 Pharaoh gave Joseph (who was now 30years old) his own ring, fine clothes, a robe, a royal chariot and a brand new name 'Zaphenath-Paneah' which means "God speaks and He lives". He was also given a beautiful wife named Asenath who was daughter of the priest of On. He began travels throughout all the land of Egypt to administer his responsibilities in saving the land. Before long Joseph and Asenath had 2 sons whom they named Manasseh and Ephraim...not Egyptian, but HEBREW names. (Spiritual application: Far away from home it would be easy to forget your roots or principals that had been taught as a child, but Joseph proved by his children's names that he had not submitted to the false gods of the Egyptians.
