An audience in attendance, a repertoire more refined than ever. Experience an immersion behind the scenes with the Choir just minutes before going on stage and delivering magic. Johansen Choirs are truly honored to re...  more The Johansen High School Vocal Music Department provides our students the opportunity to perform great choral literature while entertaining local audiences and performing at a variety of civic and community events. Johansen Choirs are truly honored to represent our community in various capacities as well as having the opportunity to tour throughout California, often giving students their first experience outside of Stanislaus County. We are excited that nearly 60 students will participate in the vocal music program at Johansen High School this year. Last year our Choirs participated in multiple festivals, sang by invitation at many local events and toured San Diego. The department’s Viking Singers won a contest this summer and sang on stage with Foreigner at the County Fair. These talented students have been invited to participate in Gallo Center for the Arts first ever a cappella festival in April 2013.  less

Highlights of recent seasons include highlights from the 80′s rock musical ‘Chess,’ ’Messiah’, by G.F. Handel, Gloria, by Vivaldi, the Durufle Requiem, the Pope Marcellus Mass by Palestrina, Magnificat by J.S. Bach and Morten Lauridsen’s Lux Aeterna. During the summer, Cantate presents the Pacific Summer Music Festival which hosts guest musicians such as the nation’s most beloved choral conductor, Dr. Weston Noble, concert pianists, Itay Goren and Frank Pavese and the Grammy-nominated string ensemble, Quartet San Francisco. The chorale also performs during special occasions with the Guam Territorial Band led by alumnus, Maximo Ronquillo Jr.  less

The Semitone Singers is a group of Choirs run by Taylor Giacoma, founder of Semitone Studios. Newly formed in 2022, the group is currently comprised of a mixed Choir, a men's Choir, and a women's Choir. The mixed Choir meets at the Manchester Rugby Club, ...  moreThe Semitone Singers is a group of Choirs run by Taylor Giacoma, founder of Semitone Studios. Newly formed in 2022, the group is currently comprised of a mixed Choir, a men's Choir, and a women's Choir. The mixed Choir meets at the Manchester Rugby Club, and the men's and women's Choirs meet at the Wilmslow Rugby Club. The repertoire consists of a little bit of everything - madrigals, movies, musicals, spirituals, shanties, serious songs, silly songs - everything. All singers are welcome, and there is no audition required. We sing as a team, one step at a time.  less
