As you may observe, former members of the choir (those without the burgundy coates) are welcomed up to join the choir in this finale song in each concert, as it has been for 37 years in a row! (And if they are observed by the conductor when arriving to the churc and choose NOT to join, they are very kindly told to do so! This caused a special occasion in this concert: a mother and a daughter singing in the same choir! :-))
This year our guest conductor Inger Lise Hope, also a former member, took on the job at short notice because of illness. Indeed, she did a great job in three concerts! less

The choir is known for its adventurous programming, seeking out music written specifically for women and frequently commissioning new works. Its appearances include performances at the distinguished National Convention of the American Choral Directors Association (February 2003 and March 1997), including memorable New York performances at Carnegie Hall, Riverside Church, and Avery Fisher Hall. Elektra was honoured to represent Canada at the Fourth World Symposium on Choral Music in Sydney, Australia (August 1996).
Recent engagements include organising and performing in Welcome the World: A Choral Gala, as part of the Vancouver 2010 Cultural Olympiad, hosting Tapestry International festival of women’s choirs in 2009,... less

Morna Edmundson, Artistic Director, takes us through two of her warmups, 1) using folk song melodies to encourage legato singing and natural phrasing and 2) "Umbrellas" to ease the top of a woman's range. Elektra's mandate is "to inspire and lead in the Choral art form through excellence in performance and the creation, exploration, and celebration of women's repertoire." Your thoughts on the video? Let's start a conversation!
