Audio recording by Matt Curtis (Choral Tracks). Published in December 1920 in Harper's Magazine and again in 1923 in his Pulitzer Prize-winning book New Hampshire, "Fire and Ice" is one of Robert Frost's most popular poems. Some have asserted that the poem is a compression of Dante's Inferno. In an anecdote he recounted in 1960, prominent astronomer Harlow Shapley claimed to have inspired Fire and Ice in an encounter with Frost a year before the poem was published. Frost asked Shapley how the world will end, and Shapley responded that either the sun will explode and incinerate the Earth, or the Earth will somehow escape this fate only to end up slowly freezing in deep space. Crescendo is the evolution of the choir, our growth as individuals and as a group ‎from the very first rehearsal to finally singing for our audience at L’Auditori.‎ It’s an empowering life experience resulting from the intense months of work and rehear...  moreCrescendo is the evolution of the choir, our growth as individuals and as a group ‎from the very first rehearsal to finally singing for our audience at L’Auditori.‎ It’s an empowering life experience resulting from the intense months of work and rehearsals, ‎a learning process and a fantastic opportunity to share, to be supportive and to persevere in ‎our personal and collective dreams.‎ In this concert we present the Symphony for Strings No. 8 by William Herschel, ‎musician and astronomer who went down in history as the discoverer of the planet Uranus in ‎‎1781. This work will be followed by the dance of planets and stars of La Lluna by ‎Ian Shaw, a work based on the poem by Jacint Verdaguer and winner of the second edition ‎of the El Cor Canta International Composition Competition for Choir and Orchestra. The ‎concert will be rounded off with a call for peace with Missa per la Pau (Mass for ‎Peace), by Salvador Brotons.‎  less

This creates a "virtual" performance, since the piece is strung together from multiple acoustical venues from multiple days. The performance tour also included other modern works, such as Eric Whitacres "Sleep" and "Lux Aurumque", Frank Ticheli's "There Will Be Rest", and Dan Forrest's "Selah".
