Dedicated to The performance of sacred music from varied religious traditions and historical periods, Angelus performs music ranging from medieval chant and polyphony to The American Sacred Harp tradition and contemporary Irish sacred music.

Our aims are to achieve high standards of singing and performance, and to contribute to our local community. Our annual programme typically includes 6-8 concerts in The Harpenden area and furTher afield, a caThedral tour, open singing days and The occasional recording. We rehearse on Wednesday evenings at St George’s School, Harpenden. We are known for good music making, varied repertoire including regular commissions, excellent soloists, interesting concert venues and loyal patronage of a range of local hostelries…. We come from a wide range of musical backgrounds and have a thriving interns scheme for talented Singers from local schools. Over our 50 year history, The Leas have sung under 11 permanent conductors and many guests, each of whom has made a distinctive contribution to our style and repertoire. We also perform The finest in modern choral works by Benjamin Britten, Nathaniel Dett, Maurice Duruflé, Elaine Hagenberg, Kim Porter, Carl Rütti and oThers with occasional forays into American hymns and spirituals and operatic favorites. The chorale is unique in Paris, too, for its membership, which The New York Times once described as “unpaid but professional-level.” Its Singers are French- and English-speaking, of all ages and backgrounds, and competition at auditions can be lively. We have developed a reputation for excellent performance of interesting and challenging programmes for Singers, players and audiences alike. Repertoire spans vocal works from The eleventh century to The present day including several Baroque present-day premières, with musicians drawn from recognised professional period ensembles.
