The CHOIR represents a Community of exceptional talent and passion for music. The East Rand Youth CHOIR hosts prestigious CHOIR festivals annually for both high school and primary school CHOIRs. The aim of these festivals are to motivate and inspire these CHOIRs in order to achieve true development and innovation for our youth. We train together in vocal and choral skills as part of every session and want to explore our own sound as well as that of our CHOIR's. We have a strong Folk influence and a variety of pieces that keep us challenged and growing. Directed and trained by singing teacher and CHOIR coach Sandra Smith (www.singingandbreathing.co.uk) Throughout the pandemic we kept singing and did a short but very fun Homegrown Harmony project where all singers participated in a small group piece or a solo and recorded it. We bring you classical repertoires as well as delightful Norwegian folk songs. The Nidaros Cathedral Boys’ CHOIR has over 900 years of rich history. It’s the main CHOIR of Nidaros Cathedral which is located in the ancient capital of Trondheim, Norway. It’s also the main CHOIR of Royal events. The CHOIR will celebrate its 100 years of modern history in 2027 with a global tour. Current artistic director and conductor, Bjørn Moe - a former soprano in the CHOIR, successfully reinvented the CHOIR since joining as conductor in 1973. There are 100 members in the main CHOIR, 70 sopranos/altos (9-15 years old) and 30 tenors/basses (15-68 years old). In addition, the mini-boys CHOIR, has 40 boys ages 7-9. Apart from religious repertoire, the CHOIR also sings Norwegian folk songs as well as songs from different cultures around the world. Called a “mighty fortress of skill” by the Washington Post, the Wartburg CHOIR is one of three college musical ensembles that tour internationally on a triennial basis. Beyond tours, the CHOIR receives invitations for special appearances in the United States and abroad, most recently to participate in the December 2011 White House Holiday Concert Series. As part of that trip to Washington, D.C., the CHOIR also sang at the National Cathedral’s Bethlehem Prayer Service, which was simulcast worldwide. In 2006, the CHOIR performed with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra in Prague at the invitation of Maestro Paul Freeman, CNSO music director and chief conductor, who had attended Wartburg CHOIR concert at Orchestra Hall in Chicago. Each season, the CHOIR presents four or five concerts, incorporating a blend of repertoire from gospel to sacred to pop to oratorio. Classical highlights include St. Matthew Passion, Elijah, the annual Messiah, Carmina Burana, and Bach's B Minor Mass, which was a crowning achievement for the CHOIR’s 10th and 20th anniversaries.
