Two points of note:
First, the composition grew out of the feeling that all 4 voices should start on the same note, grow outwards and then come Back to that same note at the end. The rest just seemed to evolve on its own, seemingly guided by some external force.
Second, unusually, I have asked choirs (where possible) to sing this without any breaks, via staggered breathing, as I wanted to highlight the deep conviction underlying the words of the Psalm, as one single thread of deep belief that moves from beginning to end.
Sincere thanks to Matthew Curtis (choraltracks.com) for recording "Psalm 23."
As always, comments are welcomed. Email me at rain@magma.ca, if you'd like more info.
I would like to acknowledge the a cappella choir that I sing in, The Stairwell Carollers, and our director Pierre Massie, for their musical inspiration these past 26 years.

It was Mr. Bonnie Fonseka, a distinguished Old Boy, who's vision soon came to be a Benedictine tradition, by forming a musical club. This prompted the birth of the first College Choir. The Choir acquired a reputation for top class singing and in addition often invited to perform at important national events such as to perform with other schools when princess Elizabeth visited Ceylon in 1952.
Since Mr. Bonnie Fonseka’s retirement there were many dedicated young musicians who undertook the responsibility and uphill task of training the Choir. Some of them were Mr. Robert Joseph, Mr. Francis De Almeida, Mr. Nicholas Johnpulle, Rev Bro. Augustine and Mr. Ravein George.
Mr. Ravein George revived the Choir in 1996 and guided them to reach the height of success as being cited as a Classical Choir. The Choir won the all island singing competition in the year 1999. The Choir of recent times is being Directed by a student of Ravien George and current... less

It was originally formed by Ben Camaso as JCSV Chorale, a name patterned in accordance to the Jaime Cardinal Sin Village Community, which in that time was newly constructed, located at Punta. Sta. Ana, Manila, where the parish is situated. Before, they compose of only girls, singing melody of the songs of the Holy Mass. A year passed, Virgilio Deloso handled the choir, and divided the girls into two voices, the Sopranos and Altos. It was not so long that the group acquired male participants filling up all the voice sections of a chorale.
Shortly after, JCSV Chorale was then disbanded to give rise to what they now call the Munting Himig Chorale, having more than 20 god-endearing and angelic-voiced youth of Punta. Virgilio deloso still, with Sammy Viado currently act as their choirmasters, lead the group into one that is geared, and not constricted to, singing and g... less
