Die prallen Früchte schmeckt man förmlich in behutsam dissonant angereicherten Akkorden, doch das nahende herbstliche Sterben ist im Text wie auch in der Musik unterschwellig erfahrbar: Melodien sind durch Ganztontonleitern gebrochen und die Harmonik bewegt sich zwischen modalen und alterierten Klängen. Das überaus eindrucksvolle Stück, das einige Anforderungen an die tonliche Vorstellungskraft von den Sängern fordert, ist eine dankbare Aufgabe für leistungsfähige Chöre.
