Members saw the need for a name which reflected their distinctive sound and musical objectives. They chose Voyces – a uniting image, powerful in its simplicity, a word with a bit of a twist, reflecting the eclectic and often unusual repertoire of the choir. In using the archaic spelling – ‘Voyces’ – the choir acknowledges thousands of years of rich Choral tradition whilst establishing itself in the 21st century Choral landscape. The choir is fast making a name for itself premiering works never before heard in Perth or in fact the world. Voyces seeks to be an interactive and involved performing group in the local WA and wider Australian musical community. As a strong supporter of emerging young composers and Australian composers, Voyces showcases their works on a regular basis.  less

The Choir has held concerts in many cities of Greece and abroad, and made a special appearance in Cuba, where it performed a concert in the Cathedral of St. Francis of Assisi, in Havana, invited by the Cuban Ministry of Culture. The two concerts with the popular oratorio "AXION ESTI" of Mikis Theodorakis at Thessaloniki Palais des Sports and the "CARMINA BURANA" at Thessaloniki Concert Hall, performed in collaboration with Thessaloniki’s State Symphony Orchestra (under the Cultural Olympiad), are the Choir’s most important moments until now. Well, as the day progressed to afternoon, other tunes got added, resulting in ...  moreIt all began with the idea one morning that the "other tune" for Nahum Tate's carol "While shepherds watched" is, of course, the Yorkshire ditty "On Ilkley moor bar t'hat". Well, as the day progressed to afternoon, other tunes got added, resulting in a curious potpourri for choir and piano. The choir gets to sing "On Ilkla Moor", the Este psalter tune known to all, and also Auld Lang Syne. The second voice, in its madrigalian way, gets a sly English cadence!. Meanwhile, the piano also gets some sly references to "Sing a song of sixpence" and "Scotland the brave".
