This is The encore performance from Cuore's 'Mirabilia' Concert on 27th April 2024, at which we were privileged to give The Irish premiere. 'In taberna quando sumus' (‘when we are in The tavern’) begins as a militaristic account of The immoral acts of The inebriated crowd, and The march soon descends into anarchy with a list of merrymakers joining in The mischief: included are mistress, master, priest, pauper, men, women, white, black, The Pope, old ladies, moThers, children, merchants, Christians, The smart, and The lazy. The composer writes: “In my imagination, The piece is a fusion of primal energy, irony, and dark grotesque, envisioning an ecstatic celebration akin to a lively party at Bacchus’ house.”. He fuses percussive lyrics, energetic rhythms and sometimes almost drunken modulations to capture this raucous mood.  less

Directe...  moreBlossom Street is a highly versatile and vibrant chamber Choir comprising some of The UK’s best young singers which performs regularly on TV and radio as well as on The Concert platform, and has released two critically acclaimed CDs with Naxos. Directed by Hilary Campbell, a graduate of The Royal Academy of Music, The group was formed a decade ago, while The singers were studying at The University of York, and relocated to London in 2007. In York, Blossom Street filmed a medley of Christmas carols for BBC2, which was broadcast during The snooker final in 2005, and since Then has performed nationwide and beyond. They sang to Prince Charles on ITV1 as part of his 60th birthday celebrations, and gave Their debut in Queen Elizabeth Hall as part of The Voicelab series in 2009. It started life as The James Ashworth Singers giving its first Concert in Thornton Parish Church in April 1976. After some years The base moved to The Unitarian Church near St Luke’s Hospital to be more central for members coming from all parts of Bradford and The surrounding area. In 1979 James Ashworth moved on to projects new and was succeeded by Douglas Robinson who had recently retired as Chorus Master at Covent Garden and who held The post until ill health forced his retirement. During this period The name was changed first to The Ashworth Singers and later to The Bradford Chorale. John Coates took over as Musical Director in 1984 and was followed by Tricia Platts in 1991. Since Tricia’s departure The Chorale has been led by several Musical Directors including Carleton ETherington, Andrew Dibb, Elizabeth Altman, John Griffiths and Christopher Rathbone.
