We ...  moreThe Island Consort Chamber Choir is a 20-voice community chamber Choir that first appeared in concert in late April 2007. Its repertoire is varied and loosely “classical”, focusing on sacred and secular Music of the Renaissance and Baroque periods. We rehearse Monday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30. This is an auditioned group with considerable Musical and choral experience, one that aspires to a higher standard of performance. Our members include amateur and professional Musicians, Choir directors and Music educators. Prospective members may audition from time to time as positions come open. Contact the Choir if you have an interest in joining. We perform mostly a cappella pieces, but many of our concerts include accompaniment by members of the Nanaimo Chamber Orchestra and organ.  less

This was the first group to become active at Academia Concerto in 2005 and during this time has made significant projects such as the participation in the Opera "Il Capulletti ed Il Montecchi" by Bellini, with first complete performance in Brazil in São Pedro Theatre - São Paulo, sang the American Musical "Video Games Live" with composer Jack Wall, made a joint presentation with the American Choir "BYU Singers", performed Vivaldi’s "Beatus Vir" RV 579 for two Choirs and orchestra with Madrigal Mackenzie. In 2011 was Guest Choir at International Choir Festival MUNDUS CANTAT in Poland and held a series of 13 concerts in various cities including the capital, Warsaw. It was the official Choir of the Masaryk University in Brno between 1999 and 2003. Since then it has continued as a civic association. In 2003 Štěpán Policer took up the artistic leadership of Gaudeamus, since 2007 Dáša Karasová has been leading the Choir. The Choir has been undoubtedly contributing to the advancement of Brno Musical culture by giving concerts and appearing at benefit events annually.
