The "plena" became very popular among sugar-cane workers at plantations in the coastal regions. This arrangement reflects a more modern interpretation of the plena with the use of the piano as accompaniment, taking Rhythmic motives from salsa rythm, and the voices in the interlude imitating the trumpets and double bass from a salsa band.

We have represented Southend further afield with performances at Dublin's Guinness Storehouse and Union Chapel, London.
