Being one of the most popular and sought after groups in Israel, "The Ensemble" has had innumerable performances of every sort and has participated in various festivals (including "Abu Ghosh" and "Festival Arad"), competitions (winners of "Shirat HaAretz 2001" and gold diploma recipients at "Sulam Mila 2002, 2004, 2006), official Israeli national and municipal events as well as a long list of private productions. Their repertoire leaning is towards “pop” (songs by the Beatles, Sting, Queen, Billy Joel, Aretha Franklin…), Israeli oldies and modern Hebrew “classics” which contain that "special something": On this list can be found songs by Shalom Hanoch, Yoni Rechter, Daniel Salomon, Yonathan Razel, and Yaruslav Yakobovitch. Together with the jazz-saxophonist Stefan Kuchel and the Sirius Quartet, the young men's choir performs contemporary works. The Quartet members describe themselves as artists of improvisation who break out of the conventional vocabulary of sound for a string quartet. Most pieces on this CD were written especially for the Sonux Ensemble, and thus composed to the singers' strengths. "We have worked on these pieces together with the composers, and given them their first performances over the course of the last five years. Performing with an Ensemble of 10 singers and no conductor, Chicago a cappella is recognized as one of the area’s most accomplished Vocal Ensembles. Under the direction of artistic director John William Trotter, the group spans a repertoire from Gregorian chant to the Beatles and beyond and is known for its performances of sacred works, Vocal jazz and pop, folk and international music, as well as a special focus on music written in the present generation. Since its founding in 1993, the Ensemble has introduced dozens of works to Chicago audiences for the first time, including commissioned works by Chen Yi, Stacy Garrop, and Tania León. We are a multi-racial, multi-cultural Arts education organization based centrally in West Palm Beach at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts. Our enrollment for the 2013-2014 choir season is comprised of singers in grades 3-12 from all pArts of Palm Beach County's diverse racial, ethnic, geographic, and socio-economic communities.
