Our aspiration is to take township choral singing to higher a level. We are also aiming at focusing more on choral projects and concerts than competitions so that our singers enjoy singing and get compensated for engaging in the choir. Choir members are taught Theory and History of music for free.

The choir has built an international reputation and has made it a trademark to include newly written music in its programmes. This is thanks to the work of Knut Nystedt (b. 1915), organist, composer and conductor, who returned to Norway in 1964 after studying in the USA and started a choir at the music department of the University of Oslo. HIMIG SANGHAYA is a coined Tagalog phrase for MUSIC OF THE HIGHEST HONOR. The directors, conductors and members of HIMIG SANGHAYA DO NOT TAKE SINGING LIGHTLY. They are a group of very young and talented artists who revel in their music, nurturing it as if it were an integral part of their being. They own up to a technical and musical maturity only to be surpassed by world-renowned and seasoned performers. They train very hard and continuously challenge themselves to achieve higher goals by aiming to master pieces of ever increasing levels of difficulty, and never fail to enthrall their audiences with repertoire that ranges from Renaissance to the 21st century, and experimenting with pieces influenced by lavish flavours of cultures worldwide.  less
