The ensemble aims to promote artistic excellence in choral music ranging from classical to popular. It also aims to provide an opportunity for passionate Singers to discover the voice as a singing instrument, develop High-level musical skills related to choral singing, influence choral music appreciation, develop cultural awareness, use choral music as a tool for change in building a better community, and finally, to represent Eastern Visayas in both local and international choral scenes. The Sinirangan believes that everyone can enjoy choral music and hopes to connect people of diverse backgrounds and ages to this extraordinary art form. The choir's size allows it to concentrate on performing the larger major choral works to great effect. The choir has also been invited to collaborate with the Philharmonia Chorus and the BBC National Chorus of Wales on many occasions in recent years to tackle some of the choral pieces requiring even greater choral forces such as Mahler's Eighth Symphony, Janacek's Glagolitic Mass, the Dvorak Stabat Mater and La Damnation de Faust by Berlioz. I was on the 1 train on Manhattan’s West Side one day when I saw the poem “Heaven,” by Patrick Phillips. I was immediately captured by the simple beauty of Patrick’s poem, and the mystery of the first line, “It will be the past.” I loved his vision and thought immediately that I wanted to compose music for this poem. Mystery, joy, wonder. “Heaven” is the winner of choral composition competitions sponsored by both the Manhattan Choral Ensemble and Georgia College. Owing much to the polyphonic work of the Renaissance, the motet is a deeply-felt work written during Wesley's period of recuperation from a fall whilst out fishing in the North Yorkshire countryside at Helmsley. The chromatic clashes at the words "the bones which Thou hast broken" are almost certainly reflective of the pain the composer had suffered, for his leg was badly broken and he walked ever after with a noticeable limp. This performance was recorded in Leeds Minster on Sunday 28th April 2013 during the recital of 'Music with Minster connections' sung by St Peter's Singers of Leeds, directed by Dr Simon Lindley. Leeds Minster, formerly Leeds Parish Church, has a long and distinguished musical history. The list of organists and past organists of the Parish Church of St Peter-at-Leeds is outstanding.
