Since 1998, this successful and renowned choir has been directed by Matthias Beckert, conductor and lecturer in Choral conducting at the University of Music Würzburg. Based on its top-class Choral performances, the Monteverdi Choir Würzburg has been highly praised both in professional circles and by the media. The Monteverdi Choir Würzburg has developed a wide concert repertoire, including major oratorio works from the Renaissance up until the present day. The choir’s performance and versatility is proven through its participation in numerous Würzburg premieres and reputable concerts with period instruments. As part of the Würzburg Mozart Festival 2006, the Jubilee Concert featured the Monteverdi Choir Würzburg singing works by the festival's founder Herman Zilcher. The group was founded in 2001 in Leioa's the Music School by Basilio Astulez, its current conductor. Kantika's repertorie has always balanced folk, sacrum and contemporary music. Due to the projects such as operas, international tours and TV concerts the choir enjoys a fine popularity.
