Our aspiration is to take township choral singing to higher a level. We are also aiming at focusing more on choral projects and concerts than competitions so that our singers enjoy singing and get compensated for engaging in the choir. Choir members are taught Theory and History of music for free.

They own up to a technical and musical maturity only to be surpassed by world-renowned and seasoned performers. They train very hard and continuously challenge themselves to achieve higher goals by aiming to master pieces of ever increasing levels of difficulty, and never fail to enthrall their audiences with repertoire that ranges from Renaissance to the 21st century, and experimenting with pieces influenced by lavish flavours of cultures worldwide.  less

In the beginning, Greenwood Singers specialized in the performance of a cappella music from different stylistic periods. Its programming has now expanded to include works with soloists, instrumental ensembles and chamber orchestra. A versatile ensemble, the choir has performed frequently with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra in a wide variety of programs which have included Mahler’s Symphony No. 8, Holst’s The Planets, family Christmas concerts, the concert version of Jerome Kern’s Showboat, Orff’s Carmina Burana (with the Alberta Ballet) and the ESO’s 1992 reunion with the British rock group, Procol Harum. We welcome experienced SATB singers who are keen to perform music of all genres to a high standard in an informal environment. Our ethos: CONTEXT Historical, social and environmental contexts of music, and the influence of these on performance, will be central to rehearsals and concerts. They will define the themes of our repertoire each year. COLLABORATION Based in Leeds, the choir has numerous opportunities to collaborate with other ensembles, composers and charities to promote and support musicians throughout the North. We hope to work with a variety of musicians to develop quality and future collaboration within the choir. COMMUNICATION No music?! Yes, we will perform without sheet music in concerts.
