We have been travelling together since we were kids as members of the Children’s Choir of Polygyros. It’s been at least 15-20 years now that we have participated in numerous festivals and concerts all over Greece but also all over Europe.
In 2005, as adults, we decided to establish this particular group with the assistance of the Children’s Choir. We have given concerts in Hungary, in several cities in Greece and especially in Chalkidiki.
In 2011 new members have been included in the group and we have changed our name into “THAMYRIADES”.
Our repertory extends from classical to rock, pop and musical. You will have the opportunity to listen to us in Selected halls.
In Greek mythology, Thamyris (Greek: Θάμυρις), son of Philammon and the nymph Argiope, was a Thracian singer who was so proud of his skill that he boasted he could outsing the Muses. He competed against them and lost. As punishment for his presumption they blinded him, and took away his ability to make poetry and to pla... less

nůmama welcomes women from all walks of life and musical abilities. Choir members have included opera singers, circus stage managers and women whose boldest performances have been behind a shower curtain.
The choir’s musical director, Elaine Chan, is an acclaimed composer and a musical theatre icon in Singapore. She has played a prominent role in guiding the choir in singing its eclectic repertoire of pop, Broadway numbers, classical choral, and even African chants and gypsy wedding songs.
nůmama has its beginnings as a mother and baby group in 2009, and has since grown into a choir for all women. Our mission is to be an inexpensive musical support group focusing on the needs of the women. We are best summed up by our strapline: sing:support:escape

Today it comprises 23 Selected singers, Cantilena meaning "lightweight song", deriving from the Latin word for "song" or "melody". Whenever possible, during concerts the members of the choir wear a pearl necklace to represent the significance of the activities pursued: each member of the choir is represented by one of the pearls, with the strand linking them all being the music - the main purpose of so much hard work to achieve artistic quality. As well as being an extremely feminine accessory, it also illustrates the quality, refinement, finish and musical beauty that the Academia Concerto pursues. The formation of groups of like voices in Brazil is not very common and, therefore, requires constant research to seek out specialised repertoire, both in Brazil and abroad, making appropriate arrangements or adaptations of pieces for ... less

Why choirs shouldn’t sing pop songs
[this is a version of a post which first appeared on my blog From the Front of the Choir]
I used to lead a women’s singing group. We tried a Bob Marley song once. One of the singers used to say: “If it sounds like the Women’s In...
