We aim to be a "A Choir of Note" in New Zealand. As Dunedin’s leading exponent of large-scale choral works, the Choir strives for the highest standards in performing the classics of the repertoire, such as Bach’s St Matthew Passion, and Christmas Oratorio, Handel’s Messiah, the Beethoven Ninth and Elgar’s The Dream of Gerontius. In addition, the Choir has performed major new compositions by New Zealand composers, such as Missa Pacifica by David Hamilton in 2006, and John Drummond’s The Journey Home in 2012. For its 125th anniversary the Choir commissioned a new work from Malcolm (Jack) Speirs: Cantico del Sole, and for its 150th anniversary celebrations the Choir commissioned a new work from Christopher Marshall: For What Can Be More Beautiful?. The Chamber Choir sings a varied repertoire of classical liturgical and secular music from the Renaissance to the present, as well as arrangements of spirituals and songs from around the world, Israeli and Jewish music, and more. The Choir performs regularly in churches and concert spaces in Jerusalem and around Israel and has performed in festivals and programs in France, Italy, Spain, Germany, the United States, and Switzerland. The second performance of the newly commissioned "City Songs" by Latvian composer Eriks Esenvalds, Australian poet Emma Jones and narrator Imogen Heap. The work was commissioned by the Voices Now Festival and first performed in the Roundhouse, London, June 2013. The second performance took place on Friday 25th October 2013 in St. Columb's Hall, Derry as part of the inaugural choral festival. This second performance featured the Holst Singers and Roundhouse Choir from London, Codetta, Encore Contemporary Choir, Colmcille Ladies and the Music Promise Junior Choir from Derry and the Orchestra of Ireland, conducted by Stephen Layton.  less
