Goal of ...  moreThe Youth Choir Melissanthi was founded as the Children’s Choir of Alexandria Municipality in 1987 aiming to the creation of a youth musical cradle in the town and so far has become a major attraction for children and young people of the city. Goal of the choir is equally the choral and music development of its members and the contribution to the cultural development of Alexandria and the surrounding area. Although it started as a small ensemble singing monophonic or at best diphone melodies without instrumental accompaniment, today has more than 80 choristers, mostly Girls, 10-25 years old, and interprets as a triphonic choir almost all kinds of music, with an emphasis on the music of the nations and Greek composers. With members graduated from Hong Kong traditional schools like Diocesan Boys’ School, Belilios Public School, St. Paul’s Coeducation College, Ying Wa Girls’ School, St. Stephen’s Girls’ College, St. Paul’s College, Wah Yan College Kowloon, and also universities like the Hong Kong University and the Chinese University, the group was immediately invited by the HKSAR government to a celebration performance in early July 2010. The group also presented a standard professional program of sacred music in its first concert “Inspiratio” in August 2010, and a themed concert, featuring a range of masterpieces of Chinese Choral music,「聲．華」in August 2011, which won critical acclaim from local music conductors, composers and musicians.
