Known for its’ varying repertoire, ranging from adaptations of classical music, jazz standards, folk and rock arrangements to dancehall and hip hop songs, the ensemble is lead by Choir director and music teacher Mrs. Susanne Faatz. “JazzVocals” was founded twenty years ago and is one of Berlin’s veteran jazz/pop aCappella ensembles.

Since its foundation, the Choir is in continuous improvement and has been involved in many workshops with ProF.Mustafa Apaydın which were organized twice a year. The Choir has a mixed membership including music teachers, musicians and amateur Choir singers. The Choir’s name is inspired by the famous story written by William Shakespeare and Guiseppe Verdi’s famous opera called Othello and the Othello Castle which is located in the city of Famagusta. The city where the Choir is based is known as “Othello’s City Famagusta” all around the world. In the last six years since its formation, the Othello Choir has given many concerts in Cyprus and also hosted festivals and Choir workshops. Founded in September 2000 by a group of friends from the National Youth Choir of Great Britain, the Choir comprises mainly of recent graduates and current students of Durham University, but also welcomes singers from all over the North East, and includes ...  moreFounded in September 2000 by a group of friends from the National Youth Choir of Great Britain, the Choir comprises mainly of recent graduates and current students of Durham University, but also welcomes singers from all over the North East, and includes many of the region’s teachers. In May, the Choir travelled to Italy to take part in the “Venezia in Musica” International Choral Competition. They won first prize in the secular music category, came runners up in the sacred music category, and received the “Outstanding Performance” prize for Bogorditsye Dyevo by Rachmaninov. They have been awarded “Choir of the Day” at all five BBC Radio 3 Choir of the Year regional rounds they have entered, and in 2008 reached the adult category finals in the Royal Philharmonic Hall in Liverpool, alongside the six other best adult Choirs in the country.
