It has evolved into an ensemble determined to reinvent itself continuously as it develops a sound that is artistically intelligent. In its 14-year history, Novo Concertante ManiLa has competed and won in several international choral competitions. Among which are the 2nd Choir Olympics in Busan, South Korea(2002), the 1st A Voyage of Songs International Chorale Competition in Genting HighLands, MaLaysia (2003) and the 23rd Takarazuka International Chamber Choir Competition in Takarazuka, Japan (2007). In 2009, the choir won the 1st and 2nd Prizes at the 46th Internationaler Chorwettbewerb in SpittaLan der Drau, Austria and the 1st Prize at the 55th Certamen International de Habaneras y Polifonia in Torrevieja, Spain. I felt the Latin word “Lux” (Light) was an appropriate fit for the imagery of sunlight and heavenly light. The second verse represents the grown child waking up from the dream (first verse). This verse is meant to be bittersweet rather than strictly sad or angry. While there is grieving, the melody imparts comfort through nostalgia and memories. When the second verse gloriously blooms into the third, this represents everLasting love shining through even the darkest of times.
