Following in the footsteps of such distinguished predecessors as the world famous Le Mystere de Voix Bulgares, who won a Grammy award in 1989 and brought Bulgarian folk to world-wide audiences, we are committed to preserving and celebrating this unique style of singing.
We are named after a mystery ourselves - Veda Slovena, The Vedas of the Slavs, was a compilation of folk songs from Thrace and Macedonia published in 19 c., which is still considered a mystification.
With an international cast of singers we are a living proof that true musical beauty and wisdom know no borders - neither national nor spiritual.
Veda Slovena Bulgarian Choir were chosen Choir of the Day at the Croydon audition round of Choir of the Year 2014 and performed successful concerts at Brandenburg Choral Festival, International Sangerstevne Choral Festival, The Convent in Stroud, as well as at popular club nights (Upstairs at the Ritzy, Woodburner, Gypsy Nights @ Green Note), and academic events of School of Slavonic and East European Studies at UCL.
Our choir is led by native Bulgarian singer Eugenia Georgieva, who provides vocal training, choral advice and pronunciation coaching.
Eugenia combines teaching by ear in the spirit of Bulgarian singing tradition with using music sheets and audio files. To join this group please book a basic vocal assessment to determine your singing competence.
Every Wednesday, 19.00-21.00 in room GO3, Institute of Education, 26 Bedford Way, WC1H 0AP (nearest stations Euston/ Russell Square). Subscription fee applies.
