Interested in performing new piece?

  • During the summer of 2009 I had the opportunity to write a piece for the Orlando Consort (a leading male vocal quartet) as part of Lake District Summer Music's 4x4 composer residency. During the residency I worked with the group to write a piece called Prayer to Phoebus. It uses extracts from Chaucer's The Franklin's Tale translated into modern English as it's text, and as such the piece presents a modern interpretation on early vocal music idioms, such as plainsong, polyphony and recitative in combination with material from a more contemporary sound world.

I am currently a studying for a PhD in composition at King's College London, and after adapting Prayer to Phoebus for SATB choir/quartet and adding a second movement, I am looking for a group who are into new music who may like to have a go at performing (and possibly recording) it.

If you are interested, you can find a recording of the original version as well as recordings of some of my other pieces at http://www.myspace.com/562471180. I do hope you enjoy them! If you would like any more details or are interested in looking at the score, then please email me at chris.m.birch@googlemail.com.

    Thanks to all! CB
