Inspirational Summer Choral Concert

  •

A virtually full Bridgnorth Baptist Church enjoyed a very varied summer concert programme from Bridgnorth Choral Society and their guests on Saturday evening with songs from musical theatre to grand opera.

Oldbury Wells School Vocal Group ‘Encore’ joined the Choral Society once again to provide top quality performances of two modern chart pieces by Pink, James Morrison and Nelly Futado with a duet from the stage musical Wicked.

Local 10 year old school girl, Scarlet Barras performed a touching rendition of ‘Castle on a Cloud’ from Les Miserable and was also joined by the Choral Society with their soprano soloist Jayne Davies in a beautiful performance of Pie Jesu from Andrew Lloyd-Webber's Requiem. Bridgnorth Mayor Ray Gill was reduced to tears by the young performers and Councillor Gill commended the youth for their hard work and dedication to their music.

Tenor Soloist, Russell Painter, charmed the audience with five songs including numbers from Tom Lehrer and Gilbert and Sullivan, a passionate rendition of 'Bring Him Home' from Les Miserable and the ever popular 'Nessun Dorma'.

The Choral Society concluded what was a very enjoyable evening with a piece called ‘As Long As I Have Music’ engaging their audience and no doubt leaving them feeling inspired.

Bridgnorth Choral Society have now changed their rehearsal night to a Tuesday evening at 7.30pm at The Swan at Knowle Sands.  New members as always will be made very welcome. For further information contact the Musical Director on 01746 862381
