    About this project

The Nashoba Valley Chorale performs the Verdi Requiem!

WHERE AND WHEN DOES IT HAPPEN?

On April 23, 2016, at 8pm the Verdi Requiem will be performed in the Acton-Boxborough Regional High School Auditorium.

WHO ARE THE PERFORMERS? The Nashoba Valley Chorale and Symphony New Hampshire, along with Celeste Fraser, soprano, Erica Brookhyser, mezzo-soprano, John David Nevergall, tenor, and Dana Whiteside, bass, will come together for a magnificent performance of this gorgeous work.

    WHY THE VERDI REQUIEM?

To sing, and play, and conduct this work is the dream of many a musician – it is a piece of drama, operatic yet with a deeply spiritual center. It has moments when the entire 70+ piece orchestra is playing with the 4 soloists and 125 voices of the Chorale, all at once; and it has moments where two voices only sing. And every moment in it serves to illustrate the marvelous ancient text of the Requiem Mass. This is a dream that can seem out of reach due to the difficulty of the work and the challenge of assembling all of the people needed to perform it. The Nashoba Valley Chorale has been working toward this performance for a few years, as each of our seasons has seen us attract more singers and larger audiences.

HOW HAS NASHOBA VALLEY CHORALE BEEN RECEIVED?

“It was an outstanding performance, proof that an “amateur” chorus with professional orchestra, soloists and direction, can produce truly deep and meaningful music!”

“We had the pleasure of attending the performance of ELIJAH by the Neshoba Valley Chorale in Littleton in the Fall of 2013. It was a special musical treat and very professional. The group is really talented and well organized. More of the community needs to be informed of their future performances…”

“Well done! Congratulations to you all! It was a joy and delight to be in the audience and listen to one of the great masterpieces performed so well.”

Your support is vital to our performance. Your donations will help us publicize the concert and continue our efforts to reach out to high schools and to senior centers, in order that those populations might be able to attend our concerts. All donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. THANK YOU!

    Risks and challenges

So far we've secured funds that will cover the majority of the orchestra costs, the vocal soloists’ fees, and the hall rental. We still need money in order to pay for additional marketing costs – it is a rarity to have this monumental work performed in the Nashoba Valley area, and we want to make sure as many people as possible hear about it.

We also would like to have some extra dollars in place in case we run into any issues with the technical side – sometimes we need to build out a stage area, or add extra microphones for the recording, or the like.

Producing a concert with over 200 musicians is a rewarding challenge and requires the dedication of a large group of people who are determined to make an exciting, rapturous experience for audience and performers alike.
